An unprotected home PC can survive a maximum of 12 seconds before it will get infected by viruses, cookies, trackers, password sniffers, keyboard loggers, Trojans and logic bombs. Symantec has been the topmost antivirus software company, providing full protection to home and corporate users from virus attacks of any sort, and it’s latest, Norton Internet Security 2012 has received 4/5 rating from over 100 customers on amazon.com and it retails for just $32.53.

Norton Internet Security 2012 Review Summary

The Negative

The biggest complaint that users have with the Norton Internet Security 2012 package is that it is not user friendly and extremely slow. The scanning process is at least ten times slower than the 2010 version of the same software. The email scan is even slower, almost twenty times slower than the last version. The automatic updates and quick scan cannot be turned off, and users find that when these are running checks in the background, the PC or the laptop becomes extremely slow and hampers productivity.

Another user reports that the Norton package is not compatible with some other software loaded on the PC like System Mechanic. If Norton is loaded, System Mechanic has to be removed. This user chose to throw away his newly bought Norton package and buy Mc Afee antivirus software, which has no issues of program incompatibility with System Mechanic. The pop ups are extremely annoying and cannot be turned off, something against which most users have a major grouse.

The Positive

This software package works well with Windows XP and Windows 7. Set up is easy, pay the subscription, get the activation code, just download from the Norton website and feed the activation code. If the user had a previous version of Norton Security, this package simply merges the old software. Security has been made easy as most tasks are automated. The user can tweak the system for more controls if required by going into the advanced settings tab. The software is very effective in stopping all malware and virus attacks.

The superb back-up support of Norton updates ensures that latest viruses are immediately neutralized before they can do any harm to the PC or steal any information. Before a user clicks on a banking site, Norton verifies whether the website is a trusted source by putting a tick which visually signals, that the site is a trusted Norton cleared site. This visual cue prevents the user from clicking on any fraudulent website out to steal passwords. Customers were most happy that the $29.99 price tag included not just one PC but three PCs.

Conclusion

Norton Internet Security 2012 is a good steady product, which does what it advertises, stop all antivirus attacks and prevents hackers and snoopers form accessing the PC or laptop. Users can safely operate their bank accounts or shop online without the fear of losing their credit card information or debit card information or passwords. The negative reviews that the software is slow are true, but then it is thorough and has an extensive antivirus library, which other faster antivirus software do not have. The issue of compatibility with other software is a drawback, which Norton must address. However, the software package compares favourably with antivirus packages in the market. Norton has a solid reputation for reliability and a $35.53 for three PCs is just to alluring not to be taken. We recommend this antivirus package for all Home users.

As has been the trend in the hot antivirus software market, each company is coming out with software deals where the subscription includes activation code for three PC. This has been done by the companies in recognition of the fact that almost every user has at least one desktop, one laptop and one other laptop/notepad which would require antivirus protection. Kaspersky has aggressively priced its
Kaspersky Internet Security 2012
for just $9.98. The software package works with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.

The software provides all round protection against any sort of attack on the PC whether it be a virus attack, cookie flood, Trojans, spammers, keyloggers, all are addressed by the superb antivirus logic that Kasperksy has devised. The Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 has a two-way firewall that prevents hackers from gaining access to the PC. 88 customers on amazon.com have given the software a whopping 4.5/5 rating.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 Review Summary

The Negative

There are only 7 one-star rating and 2 two-star rating of this product out of the 88 user feedbacks. One of the biggest problems with the software reported by users with Windows 7 operating system is that the Kaspersky software stops working after about four months of use with a message “database corrupt” and “Activation key Blacklisted”. Despite loading it again three times, one user found that the problem did not get resolved. More alarmingly, when the antivirus software reports “data base corrupt”, it switches off the firewall and the leaves the PC vulnerable to virus and malware attacks. The online support is unhelpful and this problem of “database corrupt” has been reported by many users which indicate that the software has a bug. To install Kaspersky Internet Security 2012, users have to uninstall previous versions otherwise there is a software conflict. One user suffered a complete computer crash while trying to unload the previous version of the software.

The Positive

60 users have given the software a 5/5 rating and 14 have given it a four star rating while five others have given the package a three star rating. Users were happy with the speed of installation, it installs much faster than Norton. Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 works well in every department whether it is antivirus, spam protection, application control, firewall, network monitoring, network control, parental monitoring, blocking ads, using virtual keyboards, all aspects have been covered. Users have tested out the efficacy of this product by deliberately visiting known malware website. It simply blocks out the website and warns the user that the site contains malware. The software is resource friendly, and unlike the Norton package, it does not significantly slowdown the PC while running checks in the background. Despite all the features, the software works fast, does not hang and is fully automated; the user does not need to tweak the system at all.

Conclusion

The Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 is attractively priced at $9.98 for three PC, which is almost half the price of other competing products in the markets. Despite the cheap price, the software is no laggard when it comes to providing all-round protection to PCs and laptops. The software works with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. It is easy to install, resource friendly and does not slow down the PC like some other anti-virus software do. The issues of some packages not working due to “database corrupt” message has been reported by many users; the company must make sure that such problems do not occur. Overall, since 60 users have given this product a five star rating, we too agree that the software is worth the money and is in fact, a great bargain.

Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 2012 Review Summary

The Negative

Like any product, the Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 2012 also suffers from some drawbacks, but not too many as the Norton and Kaspersky users have found. In fact, there was only one, one-star rating of the 59 user feedbacks analyzed. The installation disc of one user gave problems and he found that the software conflicted with the Windows firewall. Now this product is supposed to be compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, so conflicts with any Windows component should not happen. When the customer contacted the online support, they curtly informed him that Windows Fire Wall conflicts was not their problem. This disappointed customer has returned his Trend antivirus software since then. Another customer reports that installation of this antivirus software on a gaming PC results in significant loss of speed and at times, the PC crashes. Yet another user reports that the so-called parental control settings are very easy to override, his 12-year old son showed him how he could get around the Parental control feature.

The Positive

The antivirus is easy to install, and easy to operate. There are not too many confusing user settings, and using the default settings is best. Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 2012 does not give annoying pop ups like some other anti virus software packages. 360 degrees protection? A resounding yes has been reported by over 98% of the users of this software. The software has a small resource footprint and does not significantly slow down the PC. The software has extremely good reviews from geeks and Cnet with a 96.5 detection rate being its benchmark, which is extremely hard and difficult for other antivirus software to match. The quick scan is extremely fast, it takes only three minutes to complete, a feature which most users found very useful as it reduced the time during which a PC becomes slow. Users have reported that the software does not take up as much space as Norton and is a lot faster, hence most have migrated to s Trend Micro Titanium package.

Conclusion

Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 2012 is a good antivirus software that has received extremely high five star ratings from users 31 out of 59 users) and 22 four star ratings. The software delivers a steady performance. It does not slow down the PC like Norton appreciably does. Its installation is easy. The crib against slow performance on a gaming PC is quite generic, for any antivirus software will always slow down a gaming PC unlike that PC has a very fast processor and loads of RAM. The pricing is reasonable; $14.49 for three PCs is an extremely good bargain. Despite the low price the software does not compromise on security features and we feel this software is the best bargain in the market and strongly recommend this product for every home user.
